We’re thrilled to announce that Let’s Go, Bananas! has once again been recognized by The Velma Awards, celebrating excellence in LGBTQ+ representation in children’s media.

This year, the series took home the award for:
“The Show So Great and Inclusive We Wish It Would Adopt Us Award.”

The Velmas, presented by The Rainbow Project, honor creators who continue to push LGBTQ representation forward. The Rainbow Project was born from the need to celebrate and elevate LGBTQ+ representation in Children’s Media. It is the organization’s mission to acknowledge the brave creators who push the boundaries of queer storytelling in order to produce positive mirroring for a new generation.

The winning episode, Season 1, Episode 26: Birth Day Tales / Meer-Kitties, beautifully showcases the many ways families are formed, reinforcing that there is no single path to belonging. In ‘Birth Day Tales,’ everyone eagerly awaits the arrival of Stripes’ meerkat babies while the kids share stories of their own first birthdays, and in ‘Meer-kitties,’ Apple falls in love with the newborn pups and secretly hides them when her dads insist, they must go to new homes.

Let’s Go, Bananas! is a feel-good celebration of family life — messy, joyful, chaotic, wonderful, and of course, totally BANANAS! Developed and produced by 9 Story Media Group with stunning animation from our Brown Bag Films Toronto studio, the series was created by award-winning writer and producer Tim Bain (Kangaroo Beach, Bluey, PJ Masks).

The show is inspired by Tim’s own family and features a community of three sweet and silly animal families, the Bananas (gorillas), Crockers (crocodiles) and Tiger-Zelles (tigers and gazelles). Let’s Go, Bananas! is also written by Tim and directed by Brown Bag Films’ own Matt Mitchell (Let’s Go LunaRosie’s Rules).
