Granny O'Grimm, a seemingly sweet old lady, terrifies her little granddaughter at bedtime with her version of the Sleeping Beauty fairytale. In Granny’s retelling, the Elderly Fairy exacts her revenge on a society obsessed with youth and beauty when she is not invited to Beauty’s christening.
Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty received an Oscar® nomination for Best Animated Short Film at the 2010 Academy Awards®.
The short film received funding from the Irish Film Board, RTÉ, and the Arts Council through the ‘Frameworks’ scheme. It received 11 national and international awards, including the Newport Beach Film Festival (Outstanding Achievement in Short Films), Cinegael Montreal (Audience Award, Best Short), and the Heart of Gold Film Festival, Australia (Best Comedy).
